How to make and print the sheets

Choose Kana tracing or Genkouyoushi & grids.
Pick hiragana or katakana, then kana rows or your own words.
Under "Name, date and paper", choose A4 or US Letter.
Press Print / Save as PDF and print at 100% (actual size).

Each row of a kana sheet has one model character, gray copies to trace and empty squares.

Romaji on the sheets (Hepburn)

Romaji follow Hepburn romanization: し shi, ち chi, つ tsu, ふ fu, じ・ぢ ji, ず・づ zu and ん n. を is written o.

Small kana such as ゃ and っ have no label, because they are read with the kana before them (きゃ kya). Romaji appear on kana rows only, not on your own words.

Genkouyoushi and handwriting practice grids

Genkouyoushi (原稿用紙) is Japanese manuscript paper. The most common kind has 400 squares, 20 × 20, and comes in vertical and horizontal versions.

The 400-square sheets here fit on one page, so on A4 the squares are about 7 mm (vertical) or 9 mm (horizontal). For bigger squares, use the practice grid: 10 to 20 mm, with optional dotted cross guides.
